England's game will be replayed in the 96th minute, from the penalty spot, for a chance to qualify. No, seriously... In what will be the craziest sport story you'll read today, England Under-19 women will replay the final seconds of their crucial European qualifier against Norway, starting with a penalty kick. The bizarre situation occurred after England slipped to a 2-1 defeat in the most controversial of circumstances, with England's Leah Williamson having her 96th minute penalty disallowed for encroachment. The referee, Marija Kurtes, then decided to incorrectly award a free-kick to Norway when the rules state the penalty should have been retaken by England. The match will be re-completed tonight at 9.45pm at Seaview Stadium in Belfast, with up three minutes play possible. If the match ends in a draw then England will qualify for the tournament to be played in July. UEFA released a statement via their website this morning, "we originally wrote that Norway had qualified," it read. "But on 8 April the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) announced that Norway's game against England on 4 April will be replayed from the minute a penalty kick was awarded to England, who were 2-1 down at the time." Uefa also revealed that the referee has been sent home from the qualifying event being held in Northern Ireland. The BBC reports that it is the first time such a decision has been taken in a Uefa competition. Curiously, both Norway and England will now play their final group games today - Switzerland v England is at 4pm - before the final seconds of the Norway match can be replayed later this evening. Norway play the hosts, Northern Ireland (4pm) Oh and Leah Williamson, if you're reading this, PLEASE attempt a Panenka, you'll be our hero for life. The English ladies were 2-1 down against the Norwegians in the 11th hour when they were handed a wondrous opportunity to salvage the game. England were awarded a penalty in the 96th minute, and it was converted to level the score at 2-2. However, the referee didn't see it that way. The official disallowed the goal as she deemed that some English players were encroaching on the penalty box before the kick was taken. Rather than allowing the spot-kick to be re-taken, which is the official procedure stipulated in the rule book, the ref inexplicably awarded Norway a free-out. After some heated words were exchanged with the ref, the game eventually re-started just in time for the final whistle. The English FA formally complained about the official's ridiculous blunder and were granted a replay. However, it's not a traditional replay as only 19 seconds of the match will be played again, which was the time remaining when th penalty was given. To add to the craziness of the situation the "kick-off" happened be at exactly 9:45 p.m., when the penalty was awarded in the initial match. Luckily for England, Williamson found the net again with her second attempt to end the insane replay saga. Oddly enough, there wasn't enough time left on the clock to grab another.
