Cirque du Soleil death: artist tragically falls during KÀ performance

Audience members initially thought it was part of the show until they heard screaming, then groaning from the stage. Guyard-Guillot was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m. at University Medical Center. After the accident, a recorded announcement was played in the theater, informing those who bought tickets that they could obtain refunds or vouchers to future shows, before dismissing the crowd. Guyard-Guillot, a mother of two children, worked as an acrobatic performer for more than 20 years. She was part of the original cast of KÀ in 2006. Founder of Cirque du Soleil, Guy Laliberté released a statement on Sunday extending his sympathies to Guyard-Guillot's family, saying he was "heartbroken". Company officials are cooperating with authorities as they investigate the accident. Meanwhile, performances of KÀ have been cancelled until further notice.
