- description: The Spluttering Forecast! Weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker reassures radio fans he's 'all good' after failing to finish shipping news broadcast (with some listeners suggesting he was hungover) BBC weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker was unable to finish his dawn forecast Listeners tuning into 5:20am shipping forecast heard coughing and spluttering It got so bad that Schafernaker had to hand Radio 4 bulletin to a colleague Some who heard it suggested Schafernaker might have been hungover By JO TWEEDY FOR MAILONLINE PUBLISHED: 13:58 GMT, 19 December 2016 | UPDATED: 14:15 GMT, 19 December 2016 e-mail View comments Listeners expecting the ordinarily straight delivery of the BBC's Shipping Forecast found themselves instead concerned for the welfare of Radio 4 weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker. Perhaps it was talking about the swell and heave of the ocean but half-way through his delivery of the iconic maritime forecast, a spluttering Schafernaker was forced to hand over the mic to a colleague after being unable to continue. The queasy-sounding broadcast, at 5:20am on December 4th, left some listeners seriously worried about the weatherman's health - although others speculated that perhaps he was suffering from a self-induced condition. Four minutes into the broadcast, he's heard saying: 'Mull of Kyntyre to Cape Wrath southerly or southerly four or five...excuse me...' before a colleague takes the reins. Whatever the reason for his quick exit, sharp-eared early risers quickly took to Twitter to ask the BBC man how he was feeling. @BrindleyLass tweeted: 'Is Thomas S OK? He couldn't finish the Shipping Forecast this morning. He just stopped, after faltering many times.' @beckyturnerMP was worried too: 'Why did weather presenter Thomas Shackaknaker [sic] breakdown and cry during this mornings Shipping forecast?' While there appeared to be a BBC South East Christmas party taking place on December 3rd, there is nothing to suggest on social media that Schafernaker had attended it. A colleague suggested that while he hadn't seen the broadcaster, he had heard 'he was better later.'
