Woman Throws Kids Out Of Window To Escape Blaze

- description: A woman in Russia threw her two children from her blazing home to save them from the fire. Mila Aksakova, 36, took the drastic action at her flat in the village Energetic, located in the north-west of the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan. Video footage shows her hurling the children to safety from the fourth floor of the building from which 142 people had to be evacuated. Vanya, 4, and Natalya, 13, were thrown into bedsheets held taut by other residents on the street below. Luckily both of the children survived. The mother did not jump and was overcome by smoke, but rescued by firefighters in time, and is being treated for smoke inhalation. Fire brigade spokesman Damian Bulgakov, 43, said: "The fire started in the ground floor flat where a disabled woman had been living. We are not sure exactly what caused it yet and are still investigating that. The problem for the family was that by the time they noticed the fire it had cut off their opportunity to escape through the front door, and that meant they had to use the windows. With smoke filling the flat the mother made a decision to at least get her kids out before it was too late." The woman herself decided to wait, believing that the sheets would not hold her weight and hoping that the firemen would get to her in time.
