The young man was talking to his girlfriend when she slipped and fell from the fifth-floor balcony of a block of flats in Harbin, in Heilongjiang Province. The man caught her, but was almost pulled out of the window. Quick-thinking neighbours grabbed hold of the pair and held on until firefighters arrived. "The doors to the rooms were on the other side of the building, so we had to climb three storeys using a ladder and a tent provided by a local resident," a firefighter said at the scene. "Then I stood on the third floor window and pushed her back up." After a 20-minute rescue effort, the couple were lifted to safety.
