- description: Complete race plus pre-race practice inc Artemis 'Big Blue' Rudder breaks from impact at 09:04 ~ SEE NOTES BELOW NOAA Wind: http://goo.gl/Ir0eSC ~ Tide: http://goo.gl/Pfwk2E MY FULL LVC PLAYLIST: http://goo.gl/BT4tW Taken in Full HD (1080p60) with a Panasonic DMC-FZ150 from shore near St Francis and Golden Gate yacht clubs Official Site: http://www.americascup.com NOTE: From the news release: Sirena also said that the team broke the bottom off of a rudder. "Straight after our last tack, from starboard to port, it felt like we hit something, but it's two meters underwater and hard to tell," said Sirena. "Then, when we jibed from port to starboard, the bottom of the rudder broke off. It's going to take a week to fix so in the meantime we'll use the old rudder." So they hit something on the upwind leg after the last tack toward the windward mark, which probably cracked the rudder, and what we see on the downwind leg is the rudder collapsing under the load of foiling. My guess is that they hit partially submerged debris like a log, a common hazard on the Bay, rather than a fish. With the boat heeled to starboard, the port board is out of the water, so that kind of debris would pass unobstructed onto the bottom part of the windward rudder.
