  • description: Disguised heavily in hooded tops and black face scarves, this gang of burly robbers expected little resistance from pub regulars propping up a bar at closing time. But these amazing CCTV pictures show the punters fighting back with chairs and pure adrenalin - as they send the raiders fleeing empty handed. The four drinkers at the Sylvan pub in Timperley, Greater Manchester refused to be bowed as the masked hoodlums - all in tracksuits trainers and hoodies - burst in at 10.50pm on a Sunday night. One robbers jumped over the bar in an attempt to steal the takings but was shocked when the regulars and the staff grabbed him to stop him opening the till. Sensing defeat, the robber leapt back over the bar but fell on the floor in a heap as one of the regulars brandished a chair at him lion-tamer-style before throwing it at him. The thug and his two stunned accomplices then ran off out of the pub with the regulars in hot pursuit still clutching heir chairs. They gave up the chase when they realised the robbers had vanished into the night. But it emerged one of the robbers had stumbled as he fled after one bar chair clipped his leg whilst he was running to the door. It caused him to fall over and he left behind his Nike trainer on the floor in the pub. It has now sparked a Cinderella-style inquiry with forensic experts examining the shoe in a bid to discover the owner's identity. Footage of the raid was issued by Greater Manchester police as detectives hunted the robbers following the raid on September 25. Det Con Andrew Taylor from Trafford CID said: "These would-be thieves didn't anticipate when they walked into the pub that they would be fought off by the customers who were still inside, meaning they fled empty-handed and one of the robbers also lost his shoe. "I must commend the bravery of these people. As you can clearly see from the footage, they confronted the three men with no thought for their own safety in an attempt to detain them. We are determined to identify those responsible for this attempted robbery and stop them from targeting other businesses in the area. If you saw these men running away from the pub at just after 10.50pm on that Sunday night, or if you have any other information that may help our investigation, please get in touch. All calls will be treated in confidence."
