A video filmed by one of the three shows one knocking over the rock and celebrating with his friends afterwards. The men, reported to be Boy Scout leaders, cheer loudly after the rock is pushed over and give each other high fives. "We have now modified Goblin Valley," one of the three says in the video. Park officials were not so amused. The mushroom-shaped rock formations, known as goblins, date back to the Jurassic period and offer a precious geological insight into the era. "It is not only wrong, but there will be consequences," park spokesman Eugene Swalberg was quoted as saying by The Salt Lake Tribune. He told the newspaper that a criminal investigation is being carried out by State Parks authorities. The Emery County Attorney could file charges, and the matter also needs to go before the Boy Scouts, reports said. The three insist the video does not tell the whole story. They claim they acted because the rock seemed about to fall and hurt someone. The man who is filming the video is heard saying: "Some little kid was about to walk down here and die." "Its all about saving lives here at Goblin Valley. Saving lives - thats what were about." One of the men, identified as Dave Hall, later told FOX 13 News: "We decided the best and smartest thing is, push it over so it cant fall on top of somebody". Another one, identified as Glenn Taylor, was quoted as saying: "I wish we would have been smart enough to go get a ranger cause it was wrong of us to be vigilantes, and Im sorry I did that."
