- description: The holidaymakers were relaxing on Maho Beach on the Caribbean island of St Maarten when a sudden jet blast propelled them into the sea. When you're lying on a beautiful, sandy beach, deciding whether to stay put or venture into the cooling sea is often difficult. But tourists in one Caribbean resort had the choice made for them when a passing plane blasted a stream of air in their direction. The holidaymakers were relaxing on Maho Beach on the island of St Maarten when a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines plane flew overhead. The aircraft roared less than 100 feet above the tourists' heads as it came in to land at the adjacent Princess Juliana International Airport. But its extremely loud noise wasn't the only issue - with its powerful engines blasting air toward the beach below. The jet blast propelled more than a dozen men, women and children into the water - and even almost lifted some of them into the air. The remarkable moment was captured on video by someone on the beach and later posted on Vine by USA Today. Maho Beach is famous for its proximity to the island's airport, with tourists regularly watching planes making low-altitude landing approaches. Unsurprisingly, the site is very popular with plane spotters. The local government warns those in the area not to get too close to arriving and departing aircraft because of the risk of suffering injury or even death.
