- description: On 9th February, 2012, the Ministry of Energy released 25 proposed block offers for oil exploration (which includes seismic mapping and drilling). Two of these, 12PEG1 and 12PEG2, are situated 50 kilometres northeast of the Kaikoura coast. Another block, submitted permit # 52676 from 2011, extended on and off-shore from near Kekerengu to the Marlborough sounds. More than 2300 signatories are demanding withdrawal of blocks 12PEG1 and 12PEG2 from offer, and that the off-shore portion of submitted permit # 52676 be declined. We are actively working with Kaikoura Council, the Ministry of Economic Development, and Local Business Owners to remove these threats to our ecosystem and economy.
