- description: The Netherlands claimed top spot in Pool A and booked a quarter-final against France following a 5-0 victory over Ireland in the Men's Hockey World League. Billy Bakker had the first chance, one on one with the keeper but dragged the shot wide. The Dutch broke the deadlock after eleven minutes. Rogier Hofman given too much space and ran unopposed into the D, his cross deflected by Stuart Loughrey into his own net. It was 2-0 after twenty seven minutes. Oliver Polkamp showed the Irish defence a clean pair of heels, his cross found Constantijn Jonker with work to do but finished calmly. Ireland began the second half strongly, Peter Caruth battled past two defenders into the D, his pull back found Michael Watt, denied by a great save from Stockmann. The Dutch came close to extending their lead with a well worked move from a short corner Hofmans' shot teed up by Jeroen Hertzberger. Hertzberger put the game beyond doubt thirteen minutes from time, holding off three defenders to slot past Harte to make it 3-0. The Dutch upped the intensity and added a fourth, Hofman blasted in a reverse stick shot from the head of the D. Hertzberger added gloss to the victory.
