  • description: Tonight's update thanks to Lacoa Workforce looks at the Tropical LOW currently SE of PNG. As at 4PM Qld time the LOW was located in the Coral Sea at 12.3°S and 153.9°E. The current intensity was 25 kt and the center was moving at 5 kt at a bearing of 230 degrees (SW). The minimum central pressure was 1004 mb. The BoM give this LOW a HIGH probability of forming into a cyclone. the models disagree with all major global forecast models suggesting the system will remain below TC strength on its approach to the coast. Regardless of whether Zane is named or not, the coastal effects will be similar. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to develop north of Cairns later on Tuesday and into Wednesday. The heaviest of the rain will be confined to areas just south of the coastal crossing point. Falls of up to 300mm over the next 4 days are possible in the vicinity of the LOW's crossing point. Zane (if he's named) or the LOW is expected to cross the Peninsula coastline Tuesday night or Wednesday. He is then expected to move into the Gulf but not re-strengthen significantly. Some moderate to heavy falls may occur in the Eastern top end on Thursday or Friday as the remnants of the LOW track west. Next update April 29
