Chen Ding of China won gold in the 20-kilometer walk at the London Olympics on Saturday, after defending champion Valeriy Borchin of Russia collapsed around the 19-kilometer mark and was unable to finish the race. Borchin was put on a stretcher and was taken away from the race track in central London in an ambulance. Chen finished 11 seconds ahead of Erick Barrondo of Guatemala, while Wang Zhen of China took the bronze. Chen took the lead at the 18-kilometer mark and pulled away from the pack shortly after to win the race in 1 hour, 18 minutes, 45 seconds. Borchin won gold at the world championships in South Korea last year.
