- description: Shown in the video are some of the first minutes of the prototype watch free-running off the charger. Although it uses traditional hands and gear train to drive the hands and the moonphase, inside there is no quartz crystal - only a true cesium-based atomic clock. Unlike so-called "atomic" wristwatches that use a radio signal to synchronize with time signal, the new Bathys Hawaii Cesium 133 prototype wristwatch has its own self-contained cesium atomic oscillator. This allows for unprecedented accuracy on the order of only one second per 1000 years. In this age of GPS and cell phones, I'm sure many will debate the usefulness of having your own atomic wristwatch, but let them debate away - we think it's cool.
