- description: With technical issues resolved, this is the re-edited version of the RTC (Road Traffic Collision) that I was involved in on the 28th of August. To those of you who have the opinion that I could have done a better job of avoiding the lorry, I would like to say the following; It is very easy to watch a video like this and be critical towards those involved, however, unless you were actually involved, then you have very little understanding of the actual situation. I saw both lorries in a stationary position with plenty of time and distance to spare. The wide-angle lense that the Drift HD camera uses makes objects in the video appear to be slightly different to what it actually is in reality. I reduced my speed and I moved myself into the centre of the lane in anticipation; that kind of stuff was drilled into me during my CBT, A2 training and Bikesafe courses so I know for sure that I did it. I had no chance whatsoever to avoid the truck as there was an extremely short amount of distance between the point of the driver moving and the point of impact. Take into account individual reaction time and the chances of coming out clean were pretty much 0. If by some form of Godly action, I had done, then there may well have still been contact and I may well have been under the wheels of the other truck. Who knows?! It's all well and good saying that I could have done this or I could have done that to avoid the situation but the fact is that I didn't and nor did the driver. As such, we are both dealing with the outcome. Of course I panicked, of course I tensed up and I most definitely had a squeeky bum moment but when a 44 tonne truck suddenly wants to say hello to your face, there ain't a lot you can do. For sure, I am devastated that my brand new Street Triple is looking worse for wear and I damn well wish my knee wasn't the way it was but they are and that's that.
