  • description: He's a member of the most popular boy band in the world, with a fan base largely consisting of young female fans. So Niall Horan should probably be aware that there are some words he really ought not ever use in public. But the 18-year-old has suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue, and today took to Twitter to apologise for calling a group of fans 'a shower of cunts'. The loyal 1D fans asked Niall to stop for pictures and wish one of the group happy birthday but were instead met with an insult, albeit one perhaps made in jest. 'Remember the last time I walked down here?' Niall said. 'You shower of cunts.' It seems not even blatant slurs will diminish fans' love for One Direction, with the user who uploaded the video to YouTube defending the actions of their hero. They wrote in the description: 'He's so nice, even though he called us a shower of cunts but hey. It was banter.' Another commenter explained: 'In Ireland "shower of cunts" is used as 'a group of annoying people' but in a joking way. You say it all the time it really isn't offensive.' Horan later apologised, saying: 'Really sorry if I caused any offence. It was just banter with fans who I think of more as mates. 'But I understand that it's not a word I should be using at all.' This concludes One Direction news related to the semantics of the 'cunt' word, with the rest of the band being engaged in more family-friendly behaviour. Zayn Malik was recently spotted buying a flash Bentley, while Harry Styles has been busy searching for a new home in Primrose Hill, London. The bemopped pop star was snapped with an estate agent who was showing him some luxury pads. One Direction are a British-Irish boy band consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They signed to Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after being formed and placing third in the seventh series of British television music competition The X Factor. They later signed in North America to Columbia Records. In November 2011, One Direction released their debut album Up All Night, which became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of 2011. In 2012, it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making One Direction the first UK group in U.S. chart history to debut at number one with their first album. Up All Night spawned the Official UK Singles Chart top ten singles — "What Makes You Beautiful", "Gotta Be You", and "One Thing". In 2012, "What Makes You Beautiful" won the BRIT Award for Best British Single. One Direction supported the album with their Up All Night Tour. They have began recording their second studio album, due for release in late 2012. One Direction's world tour is set for 2013, with tickets grossing $15.7 million for their Australian and New Zealand dates. One Direction have been described as sparking a resurgence in the boy band concept, and of forming part of a new "British Invasion" in the United States. As of June 2012, according to Nick Gatfield, the chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, One Direction represent a $50 million business empire.[2] Their work has earned them awards and nominations. One Direction have supported various charities and foundations, and have commercial endorsements with Pokémon, Nokia, HarperCollins and Hasbro. They also appeared as themselves in the iCarly episode "iGo One Direction" (2012).
