It's took Korea just 40 seconds to take the lead, Han Hye Lyoung capitalised on a defensive error and slotted the ball between Bianca Russells' legs. New Zealand equalised on twelve minutes, a great bit of dexterity from Krystal Forgesson to latch onto Anita Punt's deflected cross. Korea was back in front through Seung A Park. She touched in after excellent work by Kim Jong Eun. Katie Glynn levelled the scores when she smashed in the rebound after Kayla Sharlands' drag flick from a short corner. Kayla Sharland put New Zealand 3-2 up after 27mins. The Black Sticks skipper with the final touch after a scramble created by Forgesson's pull back ballooned high. That lead lasted barely a minute; Han Hye Lyoung intercepted on halfway, rounded Russell, kept her composure and finished well. Lee Sin Hye kept the scores level with an incredible save to deny Anita Punt from a short corner. Neither side managed to build on their three goals, this match had to be settled with the first shoot-out of the competition. Lee Sin Hye made three saves before Park Seung A scoreed the winning penalty. Final score 3-2 Korea.
