- description: Seven days ago, Canadians all across the country, and world, really, joined the Kevin Vickers fan club. The Parliament’s Sergeant at Arms became an instant household name, and more importantly a hero, when he risked his life and shot the shooter on Parliament Hill. Even more heroic, he showed up to the next day. I’m not making light of the situation, but if that were me (and trust me, that will never be me, I’m not that brave) I would have at least asked for the rest of the week of, if not the year. On last night’s The Colbert Report, Stephen joined us in celebrating Vickers, likely in most Canadian way possible. The clip is fun to watch and yes, as with practically everything, it brought a tear to my eye. One of the things I love about Kevin Vickers, and there are many, is just how Canadian he is. Beyond saving countless lives, he also acted like it was no big deal, even though we all know it was. If this was in the USA, he’d likely be making the talk-show circuit and then penning a book. But Vickers won’t do any of that. He’ll continue being a hero, which is pretty darn great.
