- description: Ireland's most prestigious one-day event, the Shay Elliott Memorial Race, took place on Sunday 12th of May. Traditionally the last race before the Rás Tailteann, the 'Shay' forces apart the best from the rest showcasing who to follow in the weeks to come. This A1/A2 race is exclusive to those men who've worked their way up the ranks to enjoy the fast pace and tactics involved. The Shay Elliott is in memorial of the late Seamus Elliott, who came to be quite a memorable Irish rider known all over the world as a Tour stage winner and also the most loyal of his team throughout his cycling career. The strong headwind and rain throughout the day added a flavour of stress for even the strongest riders. Two teammates, Conor Murphy and Thomas Martin of Eurocycles, worked together and found their legs once over the climb. They pulled away from the bunch together near Roundwood, knowing to have a chance at a win they'd have to work as teammates. They stayed together and in the end battled in out between the two of them with Conor Murphy taking the win and Martin finishing just feet behind in 2nd place. Eion Morton took 3rd place and the first A2 rider to cross the line was Eoin Green while Odhran Connor claimed 2nd and John McCarthy 3rd. It was an epic day of racing!
