- description: WARNING: GRAPHIC. Mass Slaughter Of Pilot Whales In The Faroe Islands. Sea Shepherd Crew Arrested. On July 23 2015, approximately 250 pilot whales were slaughtered on the killing beaches of the Faroe Islands. The slaughters, known by the traditional Faroese term ‘grindadráp, took place in two separate drive hunts at Bøur and Tórshavn, making this the single, bloodiest day in the archipelago this year. Three Sea Shepherd crewmembers have been arrested and another two have been detained for standing in defense of the whales that were targeted for slaughter.
