  • description: Farmers Peter and Netty Hazell captured this very shaggy merino ram after they found it wandering in brushland on their land in central Tasmania. Mr Hazell said he was able to creep up on the sheep and catch him because the animal couldn't see well because of the amount of wool on its face. The sheep, nicknamed Shaun, was found with a tag from a farm on Tasmania's eastern coast, and had been drifting across the state for about six years, according to ABC news. Given how long the ram had spent in the wild, Mr Hazell was amazed he was in such good health. "They usually get cast (fall on their back) and can't get up, or they get fly-struck or the hot weather gets to them," he said. The two farmers plan to shear Shaun to see if he can break the record for the most fleece-yielding animal. That record is held by a New Zealand sheep dubbed Shrek that was found hiding in caves and captured in 2004.
