The Mitsubishi Evo X of the local team participating to the Criterium event left the road at very high speed hitting a tree. Although the car caught fire, both driver and co-driver could rapidly be freed from the wreckage by the emergency teams and were airlifted to the hospital. The impact unfortunately was so severe that both passed away during the transfer to the hospital. The organisation has decided to stop the event. Our thoughts are with the families of both men. ********* Sezoens Rally gestaakt na dodelijk ongeval Op de tweede chronorit van de Sezoens Rally is vanochtend omstreeks 10h15 wagen nummer 82 van de bemanning Roel Vrolix en Stef Winters, van de baan gegaan ter hoogte van de kruising van de Vosheuvelstraat met de Pluimerteweg, waarna de wagen een boom raakte aan hoge snelheid. De hulpdiensten waren onmiddellijk ter plaatse om piloot en copiloot de eerste zorgen toe te dienen en de betrokkenen uit de wagen te bevrijden. Bij overbrenging naar het hospitaal zijn beide bemanningsleden helaas bezweken aan hun verwondingen. Roel Vrolix was woonachtig in Bocholt. Zijn navigator Stef Winters was afkomstig uit Reppel, een deelgemeente van Bocholt, maar woonde in Peer. Uit respect voor de families van de slachtoffers, heeft de organisatie, in samenspraak met de gemeentelijke overheid, beslist om de wedstrijd te staken.
