Driver and cyclist fight in Downtown Vancouver street

- description: Vancity Buzz has obtained an exclusive video of the fight that took place between a car driver and cyclist in downtown Vancouver on the afternoon of Friday, January 24. Vancouver Police arrived to the scene of the fight at Dunsmuir and Burrard Streets just after 4:00 p.m. Upon arrival, the men had already been separated and were waiting to speak with the officers. According to police reports, a scuffle began following a disagreement over the use of the Dunsmuir bike lane. The cyclist was in the roadway and was cut off by the driver, which caused the cyclist to fall off of his bike although no contact was ever made between the vehicle and the cyclist. The cyclist then allegedly attempted to damage the driver's car, reaching into the car and throwing property belonging to the driver all over the road. Please note that the video does not document the entire incident as described by police. The video begins at the point when witnesses saw the driver exit his car to confront the cyclist and within seconds it degenerated into a physical altercation between the two men. As he approached the cyclist and while engaging the cyclist in the scuffle, the driver can be heard repeatedly shouting, "give me my f***ing shit back," in what appears to be an attempt to retrieve his belongings from the cyclist. The cyclist was driven to hospital by police for minor injuries. At the scene, officers determined there was insufficient evidence to charge either the driver or the cyclist. Police investigators will take to account the photos that went viral January 27 on Facebook as further evidence and to ensure all leads have been exhausted. In addition to the photos, the video footage acquired by Vancity Buzz has been submitted to investigators for evidence purposes.
