- description: The International Olympic Committee has asked South Korea officials for "an explanation" after one of their players displayed a flag with a political message "Dokdo is our territory" during the match against Japan in the Olympic football games. Several hours before the match, the president Lee Myung-bak visited islets which are disputed territory between the two countries. The visit prompted Japan to recall its ambassador from Seoul. The match in Cardiff was seen as potentially raising diplomatic tensions and, in the event, a South Korea flag with a slogan supporting sovereignty of the islands was reportedly displayed on the field. Fifa had already said it will investigate the incident and now the IOC has also intervened. A statement from the organisation said: "we have opened an inquiry and have asked the [South Korean Olympic committee] for an explanation." Fifa said it was "made aware of this incident" and its disciplinary panel chairman will study pictures from the stadium.
