Robert Kubica parecía inamovible en la primera posición del 37 Rally Islas Canarias 'El Corte Inglés' después de una etapa, la del viernes, en la que acumuló más de un minuto de ventaja al hacerse con el mejor tiempo en todos los tramos. El polaco podía defender ese liderato en los seis tramos restantes, pero ha cometido un error en la décima especial del rally, la de 'San Bartolomé de Tirajana' (21,36 km), y se ha salido con el Citroën DS3 RRC que estrenaba en este rally. Con ello Kubica ha quedado fuera de carrera y es el checo Jan Kopecky (Skoda Fabia S2000), autor de su primer scratch en el tramo anterior de 'Maspalomas', quien pasa a comandar la prueba.
