- description: On 4 August 2012, Serena Williams won the gold -- and the rare Super Slam -- in women's tennis on Centre Court at Wimbledon. During the national anthem "The Star Spangled Banner" the U.S. flag dropped to the ground due to winds in the venue. The flag dropped just as the phrase "... that our flag was still there" was sung by the crowd. Williams carried on with grace until the end of the anthem. I am sure the LOCOG protocol team (and IOC for that matter) was mortified.
