  • description: On December 11th 2014 Gerry Lougheed Jr, chair of Sudbury's Police Services Board met with Andrew Olivier to let him know that Sudbury's NDP MPP Glenn Thibeault would be stepping down and running for the Liberals and that the party was asking him to take the high-road and move aside for Thibeault. He also told Andrew to ask for a job, and mentioned the Premier was prepared to offer a job or appointment in exchange for playing politics. The conversation is presented in its entirety for context. Highlights: Lougheed tells Olivier "it's very important to Glenn... he'd like to have an acclamation with everybody behind him because the NDP are going to S*** all over him. (02:04) Lougheed announces "I came to you on behalf of the Premier and I guess Thibeault, to ask you if you'd consider stepping down... nominating him...the Premier would like to talk to you. They would like to present to you options in terms of appointments, jobs, whatever" (02:12) at (05:52) he proclaims "Glenn Thibeault is obviously a real win for Wynne to be able to say 'jeeze I'm such a great Premier I've even got the NDP people running for me' at (7:12): "The Premier has always said to me she's in favour of a nomination. She has never said I want to appoint" Lougheed admits: "For the past three years I've been harassing Thibeault to join Trudeau's group" (8:32) He adds: "This is tough and I guess the thought is not only is it tough but what's in it for you? I hate to sound Machiavellian about it but at the end of the day if you take the high road on this 'what is your reward?' What do they say ...Andrew Olivier took a bullet for us so what do we give to Andrew Olivier? I have raised that question" (9:44) and finally even Lougheed admits: "If [Andrew Olivier] got a better start last time with perhaps better mentors he'd be the sitting MPP right now" (10:16)
