  • description: 9:36pm AEST: In response to an audience question about the carbon tax, the ALP's Greg Combet commences upon a rambling and tedious reply that bears scant relation to the actual question. 9:48pm AEST: As Combet approaches the end of a sentence he had started twelve minutes earlier, fellow panelist Simon Sheikh suddenly faints - slamming his head on the table in front of him and arousing concerns that a visibly nervous Sheikh had died from stage fright. 9:49pm AEST: Combet, who is noted for his powers of observation, proposes that Sheikh is "not okay". Adjacent panelist, the LNP's Sophie Mirabella, recoils with disgust at the disrespectful invasion of her personal space by a young man of Middle Eastern appearance. 9:50pm AEST: Combet once again demonstrates his powers of observation by realising the camera is now on Sheikh, and quickly moves towards him to remain in shot. 9:51pm AEST: Mirabella, having recovered from her initial horror, now cackles with delight as she taunts the hapless Sheikh by extolling him to "get up". 9:52pm AEST: Sheikh belatedly responds to Mirabella's bemused poking and prodding of his body by regaining consciousness and admitting he had been bored to sleep while listening to the droning Combet. 9:53pm AEST: In spite of demands from Q&A host Antonio Jones that Sheikh be "taken care of out back", ABC stage managers refuse to execute Sheikh for his discourteous fainting behaviour and assist him off stage so he can be taken to hospital for observation. 10:12pm AEST: Sheikh is pronounced dead on arrival at Liverpool Hospital. Doctors attribute the cause of death to excessive carbon consumption exacerbated by bouts of tosseritis. 10:35pm AEST: Jones concludes the broadcast by mourning the loss of time caused by by the earlier interruption and lamenting that Sheikh's collapse had robbed the Q&A program of valuable extra minutes that could have been spent debating the carbon tax, an issue that seldom receives attention on the popular ABC show. 11:47pm AEST: After a ritual ceremony performed in accordance with Sheikh's atheistic traditions, US Navy SEALs dispose of his body at sea near the undisclosed location where they had previously deposited the body of Steve Jobs, so as to discourage fanatical hipsters from making a shrine for pilgrimage.
