  • description: Detectives investigating a series of burglaries where cash machines have been stolen have issued CCTV footage of the most recent incident in Sapcote. The latest incident took place at the Co-operative Food shop in Leicester Road, Sapcote at 1.15am on Wednesday November 11 when a digger was used to extract the cash machine from the front of the shop. The ATM was then placed in the back of a Toyota Hi-Lux and driven away. The digger was left at the scene. Police are also investigating three other similar incidents at Co-op stores in Whetstone, Newbold Verdon and Asfordby in the last couple of weeks where cash machines were stolen. Detective Constable 1818 Stu Palmer is investigating the incidents, he said: “The CCTV footage shows the cash machine being extracted from the wall of the Co-operative shop and it’s obviously a great concern to us that thieves are targeting shops and cash machines. “We are looking at the similarities between all of the reports and there is a strong possibility that the incidents may be linked but our investigations are very much ongoing to establish whether there is a definite link. “We would also encourage anyone who sees a digger or JCB type vehicle being driven at unusual times of the day or night to contact the police immediately so we can act appropriately and eliminate any reports from our enquiries. “If you witnessed the incident in Sapcote or saw either the digger or the Toyota car being driven in the area then please get in touch. Even if you think the information you can provide is not significant we would still encourage you to come forward so we can follow up any leads.”
