- description: On Sunday April 28 2013 the South Island of New Zealand switched off the old Analogue TV service. The West Coast of the South Island and Hawkes Bay in the North Island also switched off analogue in September 2012. This clip shows some of the pre-switch off advertisements screened on NZ TV and in the South Island and also the moments TV1, 2 and 3 went off the air. This recording was taken from Invercargill Southland so may vary to the switch off in other regions in the South Island. For historical reference the following were available in the Southland region prior to April 28 2013: TV ONE - Began broadcasting as local stations from 1960. AKTV2 (Auckland), CHTV3 (Christchurch), WNTV1 (Wellington), DNTV2 (Dunedin). Available in the Southland region on VHF1 from 1964, broadcast from Hedgehope. Branded as nationwide station TV ONE since 1975. TV2 - Began broadcasting in 1975 as a second government owned station. Known as South Pacific Television in the 1970s. Broadcast in Southland on VHF3. TV3 - Began broadcasting in Auckland on 26 November 1989 and becmae available in Southland on 10 January 1990. New Zealand's very first privately owned channel. Broadcast in Southland on VHF7. FOUR - Began broadcasting on 29 June 1997 as TV4. Became a music channel C4 in 2003 and reverted to a general entertainment channel relaunched as FOUR. Broadcast in Southland on VHF11. CUE TV - Southland's local TV channel and also available nationwide on Sky and Freeview. Originally broadcast as Mercury TV from October 1996. The channel became Southland TV in 2003 and went nationwide broadcasting on Sky, The channel then became CUE TV in 2007. Broadcast in Southland on VHF5. Prime - Began broadcasting in New Zealand in 1998. Broadcast on UHF in most regions. Maori TV - Began broadcasting in February 2004. Originally the broadcast frequency was used by Sky Television to broadcast Sky News and later CNN. This was the case in most areas of New Zealand. Also the following analogue were available but were switched of much sooner. Trackside - Began broadcasting in 1992 and out of hours was used to broadcast Discovery Channel on Sky UHF. Switched off 2011. Sky Movies, Sky Sport, The Box/Nickelodeon - Sky UHF pay TV channels switched off in 2010.
