The Bianconeri had the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table, though welcomed an Atalanta side known for scaring the big clubs. Leonardo Bonucci sat out a ban, replaced by Luca Marrone, while Nicklas Bendtner is out for three months after tearing a tendon in his thigh. The Orobici missed Carlos Carmona, Guido Marilungo, Facundo Parra and Daniele Capelli, but opted for a new 3-4-2-1 system. Juve hadn't lost this fixture since 1989, notching up 14 victories and four stalemates in all competition. It took just 60 seconds for Juventus to break the deadlock, as Mirko Vucinic ran on to a Sebastian Giovinco through ball and side-footed it precisely into the far bottom corner. Atalanta threatened an equaliser when German Denis pounced on a Marrone howler, but Gigi Buffon got a hand to the shot when one-on-one. The Argentine really should've scored. Andrea Pirlo made it 2-0 with one of his classic trademark free kicks curled into the near top corner, where Andrea Consigli simply could not reach. A Giorgio Chiellini strike was deflected just wide from the D off Thomas Manfredini, then Consigli saved from Giovinco. Claudio Marchisio got the third with a blockbuster from distance that might've taken a touch off Stefano Lucchini as it flew past Consigli's outstretched hand. It got even worse for Atalanta, as Manfredini received a second yellow card in quick succession for a tackle from behind on Chiellini. Guglielmo Stendardo replaced Giacomo Bonaventura, the defender ending a week of controversy after he skipped the Coppa Italia game with Roma so he could sit an exam for his law degree. His introduction moved Atalanta to a four-man defence, but it remained all Juve with Consigli denying an Arturo Vidal right-foot effort. Consigli dealt with a Giovinco left-foot finish, then the Atomic Ant had the ball in the net from a Stephan Lichtsteiner through ball, but was flagged offside. Substitute Fabio Quagliarella also had a goal correctly disallowed after he pounced on a Consigli parry. Consigli did well to beat away a rising Giovinco strike at the near post, then the striker ballooned over from a very promising position. Quagliarella was eager to get on the scoresheet, but Consigli kept the scoreline down. Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli (Padoin 63), Marrone, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio (Giaccherini 70), Asamoah; Giovinco, Vucinic (Quagliarella 56) Atalanta: Consigli; Bellini, Lucchini, Manfredini; Schelotto, Radovanovic (Biondini 46), Cigarini (Cazzola 74), Peluso; Bonaventura (Stendardo 39), Moralez; Denis Ref: Massa Sent off: Manfredini 31 (A)
