But after South Africa claimed two early wickets -- those of David Warner and Shane Watson -- the former captain strode up to join Ed Cowan at the crease at 11:37am local time. Clearly in control on day four of the Test match, the South African side formed a sporting guard of honour for Ponting, who duly acknowledged the opposition and shook captain Graeme Smith by the hand.
