Q: Why is Level 255 Purple instead of Red? A: When researching my previous video, I found 3 different sources (including 2 TASes) that all showed Level 255 as red. However, it turns out the 2 TASes actually contained slight mods that disabled game crashes. This is understandable since they were made before the game crash triggers were known, so avoiding them would be an annoying process of trial and error. It turns out that on a TAS of a full vanilla cart, there is a very obscure level desync glitch that causes the glitched colors to switch levels. This causes Level 255 gets a purple palette instead of red.
