The targeted areas were full of civilians, and a large number of victims was recorded including women and children, many of whom died due to inhaling toxic substances in the complete absence of the medical resources and medicines that are needed for dealing with such cases. The victims were sprayed with water and provided with oxygen via artificial respiration and primitive means in simple field hospitals. Una vez más, el régimen sirio tuvo como blanco los pueblos del oriente de Gouta (Ain Tarma, Zamalka y Irbeen) en los suburbios de Damasco con cohetes que transportan cabezas de sustancias químicas tóxicas. Las zonas atacadas estaban llenas de civiles, y se registró un gran número de víctimas entre ellos mujeres y niños, muchos de los cuales murieron debido a la inhalación de sustancias tóxicas en la ausencia total de los recursos médicos y medicamentos que son necesarios para hacer frente a estos casos. Las víctimas fueron rociados con agua y provistos de oxígeno a través de la respiración artificial y medios primitivos en los hospitales de campo simples.
