ROUND 1: Mayweather started out the action, throwing feints and left hook leads. Boisterous chants "Ca-nel-o" rang throughout the first round. Alvarez threw some big shots but missed. Mayweather landed a right cross, then escaped harm's way immediately. Alvarez caught Mayweather coming in and knocked him off-balance, sending the crowd into a frenzy. It was a tough round to score with neither fighter doing much, but it will be interesting to see if the crowd sways the judges. 10-9, Alvarez on this card. Floyd "Money" Mayweather demostró su experiencia, velocidad y potencia en el cuadrilátero; y casi como si hubiera sido una clase de box intensiva para el mexicano, el estadounidense derrotó a Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez por decisión mayoritaria. Con este triunfo, "Canelo" pierde el invicto y el pugilista estadounidense se mantiene en la cima del mundo boxístico como lo ha hecho durante 17 años y a sus 36, mantiene el invicto. Para "Canelo" el combate no fue apresurado pero Myweather es un "peleador muy elusivo; yo esperaba a un peleador muy rápido y te puntea, es un peleador con mucha experiencia" al que "simplemente no pude agarralo", afirmó en entrevista con Televisa al término del combate. Con un evidente rostro de frustración, el mexicano afirmó que los golpes de Floyd no le hicieron daño, es un peleador que "te puntea y te puntea y no se deja agarrar". No obstante la derrota, esta beneficia al mexicano. Es un hecho de que un boxeador de 23 años, tiene aún muchos por delante y seguramente Álvarez peleará por el campeonato superwelter que Mayweather dejaría vacante en caso de ganar (bajaría a su peso natural, el welter). Aunque podría darse el caso de que "Canelo" pida una revancha -lejana posibilidad ahora que sabe que requiere más preparación y experiencia-. Aún con la derrota, le espera un futuro promisorio.
