  • description: Brooke's is a young dog who is just learning about life. Important to note holding by the muzzle is common practice for a groomer while trimming the face and head. I am not applying any pressure, or causing him any pain. Most dogs will give me warning signals before attempting to bite. In this situation I had no warning, and that's what makes this so unexpected, especially coming from a Golden Retriever. The dog has also been groomed elsewhere, so it is possible a groomer may have held him too tightly by the muzzle and he remembered that. The owner was informed and sent home with homework to get the dog comfortable about having his face touched. We must touch the muzzle in order to wash and towel it dry, so the dog needs to be compliant for that.
