The pit bull mysteriously vanished just four months after Hough adopted him. The timing of the disappearance was suspicious as one of Hough's roommates had moved from the home at the same time Bayou went missing. Although Hough contacted police, he never learned what happened to his dog. Fast forward to three years - police officers in Florida brought a stray dog into a shelter in Brevard County. Employees at the shelter learned Eric Hough was the owner after scanning the dog's microchip. The shelter staff tirelessly researched to get Hough's correct information and finally a volunteer with Missing Pet Partnership was able to contact him. The nonprofit organization, Kindred Hearts, arranged for Bayou's transport back home to California. Hough stated "Now that he's been located, I can't lose him again."
