La lluvia lleva el nombre de Camelopardálidas porque su radiante se encuentra en la constelación Camelopardalis o de la jirafa y esta no tiene un fecha de presentación como en el caso de las Líridas (abril), las Perseidas (agosto) o las Leónidas (noviembre). Según la NASA, se espera que la lluvia presente más de 200 bólidos por hora, sin embargo se cree que la actividad tenga una corta duración, tal vez minutos. Enrique Anzures, de la Sociedad Astronómica de México, señala que este fenómeno puede que no sea muy vistoso ya que aún no se sabe si la Tierra chocará con la nube meteórica, pero si la lluvia resultara ser todo un éxito, "nosotros en el DF tenemos un problema: la contaminación lumínica, que es muy grande y no dejan ver las lluvias de meteoros".
