Astonishing video, which was filmed by a friend on March 18, shows Antonio Ruiz recklessly sitting on the edge of a river bank in Rio Tarcoles taking photographs of crocodiles less than an arm's length away. Friends behind him throw food into the river so he is able to take better close-up shots. But Mr Ruiz is too busy snapping away to notice one of the crocs hiding in the grass, just inches from him. His friends scream warnings, trying to alert him to the hiding crocodile. As he turns around to tell his friends to be quiet, the huge croc jumps out of the water and attempts to bite the photographer. At the last possible second Mr Ruiz scrambles back up the grass to safety while his friends throw food in the other direction. David Clow, who uploaded the video to YouTube earlier this week, defended his friend's actions, after he was labelled "stupid" on YouTube. "My friend, Antonio, may have a death wish, and he may be a little bit crazy, but he is not stupid," Mr Clow wrote. "Like he says in the video, everyone made it worse yelling. He knows how to behave around them."
