6-3-2025 Sunny Gets Around!

- description: For anyone who didn’t hear, Sunny fledged (flew from the nest for the first time) yesterday morning at 10:46! She circled a bit to head toward Jackie and Shadow’s favorite roost tree and landed near the top of it—it’s possible that after seeing her parents head to that tree so often, Sunny decided it looked like a safe place to go for her first flight. Our camera operators were able to find her so we knew where she was and that she was safe. After spending the night where she landed yesterday, this morning Sunny spread her wings again. While Jackie and Shadow spent the night on their usual favorite roosting limbs in that tree, Sunny was on the branches above them—and yes, they were aware she was there, as they looked up at her a few times. This morning while we panned Cam2, the wide-angle camera, to check on them…Sunny chose that moment to fly back to the nest tree… …the cams are set to move slowly so as not to disturb the eagles or any other wildlife, so we missed her flight…but, watching from the nest, Gizmo tracked Sunny’s trip. Sunny apparently couldn’t quite figure out the front or back door entrances to the nest itself and instead, landed on top of the nest tree canopy! She stayed up above the nest, moving about to different areas for over an hour and a half. While Sunny bounced around up there, Gizmo stared up often, trying to figure out what Sunny was doing. Then Sunny flew off the nest tree canopy and over to the nearby Simba Tree…she’s been there for over an hour. She seems to be checking out all the nearby trees to get a handle on this traveling around wherever you want idea. As she can now go anywhere, we will work to keep an eye/or a lens on her when we can as she continues her new explorations! And we will continue watching Gizmo as she keeps a curious eye on Sunny’s movements and does her own development to decide when she's ready to fly.
