Kitchee fought on courageously but was outdone by a classy United side, losing the game 2-5. David Moyes' side wasted little time to show off their Premiership quality with lots of attacking moves. On the 14th minute, Brazilian midfielder Anderson took aim from outside the Kitchee box but saw his shot went off target. Shortly afterwards, United went in front when Michael Carrick's pass found the speedy Ashley Young. Young's thunderous shot hit the goal-post but Danny Welback was well-position to capitalize on the rebound, putting the Red Devils in front. United was now leading by a goal. On the 20th minute, Kitchee generated a golden opportunity. Christian Annan's cross was met by the surging Juan Belencoso. Unfortunately, Kitchee's new Spanish recruit mis-fired on the occasion and failed to convert the opportunity. Manchester United doubled their lead on the 21st minute when Tom Cleverley's pin-point cross was met by the towering Chris Smalling. The United defender timed his jump perfectly and simply powered the ball into the Kitchee net, leaving Kitchee goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng with no chance. United made it a three-goal lead on the 25th minute when Danny Welback's long pass was controlled by Wilfried Zaha. United's new signing then laid a wonderful ball for Fabio Da Silva, who then coolly poked the ball into the Kitchee net. The English side kept the goals coming early in the second half. On the 49th minute, Alexander Buttner's superb cross was headed into the Kitchee goal by youngster Adnan Januzaj. Kitchee stormed back on the 52nd minute when Zesh Rehman picked out midfielder Lam Ka-wai with a fine pass. The midfield maestro fired a left-foot laser from outside the United box, cleanly beating goalkeeper Ben Amos. Manchester United's Adnan Januzaj further excited the crowd on the 57th minute when his close-range shot was acrobatically turned away by Kitchee keeper Wang Zhenpeng. Jesse Lingard found himself with the rebound but could not finish off the chance. Kitchee continued to surprise the pro-United crowd and scored another goal on the 68th minute. Lam Ka-wai carved open the United defense with a superb pass, which found teammate Alexander Alkande. The lanky striker put on a great solo-effort before firing a shot that beat United keeper Ben Amos. However, the Red Devils are not to be outdone and stormed back on the 79th minute. Midfielder Anderson spotted Jesse Lingard open and sent him through with a nice pass. The youngster then found himself surrounded by five Kitchee markers but kept his composure before delivering the ball into the top corner of the Kitchee goal with minimum effort. It was a majestic effort that showcased the youngster's great potential. Both sides failed to add to the score in the remaining minutes, as Kitchee succumbed to the classy Manchester United by a score of 2-5.
