The boy's mother Alissa Evans was forced to throw hot coffee on the animal as she desperately tried to stop the attack. Gavin, from Lacey, Washington, suffered terrible injuries to his face and neck and spent six days in hospital, during which doctors weren't sure if he'd make it. He broke both jaws, had his nose almost entirely ripped off and lost most of his baby teeth. If the dog's bite had been just 1mm to the left Gavin would not have survived. "It was the scariest thing I've ever seen in my entire life," Alissa told KOMO news. "I literally thought that my son, that I was watching him die." Alissa has now set up a fundraising page to help with the cost of repairing Gavin's teeth. Writing on the page she said: "We still have months of recovery ahead of us and don't know if there will be more facial surgeries or not. "This was a tragic accident and Gavin is a brave and strong little boy but I need to focus on his emotional and not worry about physical and the only reason I stress physical is because of the other kids and parents around that state and point and laugh and ask questions that eventually goes into the line of emotional." The pitbull has been kept in quarantine for 10 days and will now be euthanised at the family's request.
