They got one, just not the kind they had in mind. From a journalistic standpoint the article was full of holes, did zero public good and was criticized from left, right and center, so the bean counters decided to take the inflammatory article down less than 24 hours after it was published. Rather than apologize or admit any wrongdoing, the writers union circled the wagons instead of apologizing and took the moral high ground, griping about editorial independence after showing they couldn’t be trusted with it. On Monday, executive editor Tommy Craggs and editor-in-chief Max Read quit in protest of the removal. CEO Nick Denton has been busy speaking out both sides of his mouth, but he’s just as much at fault for this fiasco.
