- description: A two-player version of my real life minecraft project, on display to the public at the XOXO Festival Indie Arcade event (http://xoxofest.com/fringe/) in Portland Oregon. Sorry about the video quality and the terribly loud audio.. How it works, short version: It senses physical impact with peizo elements and an arduino. It uses two projectors, the rendering is done by a Processing app that I wrote. How it works, long-ish version: There are peizo elements glued to the inside of cardboard boxes covered with white paper. The signal from the peizo elements is monitored by an Arduino microcontroller and sends a message to a PC over USB. The PC is running a program I made in Processing which picks up the messages from the Arduino, renders the animation/texture, and compensates for perspective distortion (known as 'keystone' in most projector menus..). Two projectors are used via a dual output video card to cover all five visible faces of the boxes. See a bit about the original here: http://www.benpurdy.com/2011/08/minecraft-in-real-life/ Finally I would like to, in no sarcastic manner what-so-ever, officially dedicate this to all the people who commented on my original minecraft block video and accused me of faking it via green screens, after effects, black screens, blue screen, gray screens, etc. Looking forward to comments that the whole thing is staged and all those people are actors that are just pretending to hit the blocks.. ;)
