Manny Pacquiao officially put his name in the list of rookie applicants for the PBA after joining the draft on Friday. Kia team manager Eric Pineda, a business associate of Pacquiao, confirmed the development after the team finished selecting players from the league's expansion draft. "We welcome the application of Congressman Pacquiao. We wish him luck. He will go through normal procedure," said PBA commissioner Chito Salud. The Filipino fight icon is hoping to become a playing coach for expansion team Kia Motors, which earlier named him to helm the team. With no prior PBA experience, Pacquiao is required to join the draft to be able to sign with a team. Kia owns a pair of second round picks in the draft and would need to use one of those on Pacquiao to be able to sign him up. Curiously, any other team picking ahead of Kia could select the boxing champion with its own draft pick. The draft will be held on August 24.
