The baby saw its mother being hit by a speeding car while she was attempting to cross the road. The moving scenes were witnessed in Elathur, southern India, on Friday. Some locals, who saw the incident happen, said the baby monkey went running to its mother and tried to "wake her up and hug her." One local, Saravanan, said: "It was unbelievable and heartbreaking. We saw the young monkey weeping over the carcass of its mother and it was a show of human-like emotions.” Animal services and the police took the mother away to be cremated. Another local said: "They managed to keep the baby monkey away from the body, but the baby kept jumping around and continued weeping." Some locals were so touched by the incident that they could not hold back their tears.
