LW & TAG2ND Music Business Mentoring YouTube Video Blog. Sometimes copying or being a copy cat of certain effective strategies can be helpful, useful and effective. Something that worked well for someone else, whether it was something have to do with music marketing strategies, to other ideas that worked creatively can be a good thing. Still, and my advice to artists in this video is that it is important to look at the bigger picture and how it worked to see if it has the chance to work for you. I have seen a number of musicians and bands that use various music marketing strategies that worked for multi million dollar artists with much higher profiles that not surprisingly fail miserably when a newer, independent artist tries to apply those same elements to their music marketing. The same can be said for content and posts on social media networks. You have to deal with the fact that a larger scale famous artist can tweet something pretty mundane or stupid and get a whole bunch of attention, retweets or interaction and engagement, especially if they have millions of followers. Those same types of retweets and posts by much smaller artists are not going to garner the same reactions. One person I spoke to that asked for some advice for artists like himself on more effective Facebook posting talked about Jimmy Paxson and copying some of his posts of shots from the stage and the drum riser. He also seemed confused that Jimmy got so many likes and so much interaction and he asked me why it wasn't working. I told him flat out, you are a great drummer, but Jimmy Paxson is not only a great drummer but also a name among drummers, as well as Stevie Nicks current drummer. Jimmy has thousands more friends than you and has had an already. Point being, whether it is Jimmy or Kayne West. Whether it is Lady gaga or Beyonce, you have to look at the existing popularity, the existing budgets and realize that you can emulate certain aspects but you will have to change others in order to achieve the effective music marketing you want to have occur. Don't be a copy cat when it comes to certain marketing elements that you cant hold a candle to. Take an idea, develop it to work for you and then apply.
