Introduced at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse reached a top speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph) at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien proving grounds about three weeks ago, becoming the fastest open-top production car in the world. Dubbed "World Record Car" (WRC), the production version of the Guinness record holder will be built in only eight units and sold for €1.99 million ($2.60 million). As a reminder, the Grand Sport Vitesse is powered by a quad-turbocharged 7.9-liter W16 engine with an output of 1,200 HP. The video posted below features Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu reaching 408.84 km/h at Ehra-Lessien, in front of the company's staff and Germany's independent Technical Inspection and Certification (TUV) committee, who arrived at the scene to confirm the world record.
