Tom Grosset Is The World's Fastest Drummer - Breaks The Guinness World Record

Tom broke that record and set a brand new one (1,208 single strokes) at Summer NAMM at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN. Tom Grosset of Toronto, Canada became the second person in history to break 1,200 single strokes (hits) in 60 seconds at this year's WFD-World Fastest Drummer, Extreme Sport Drumming event. This means that his hands were moving over 20 times per second every second for a full minute. On July 13th, 2013, Tom set a brand new world record of 1,208 single strokes in 60 seconds making him the world's fastest drummer. The previous record of 1,203 was held for over a decade by Dream Theater's drummer Mike Mangini of Boston. The new WFD World Record was set at WFD World Finals 2013. The event was held July 11-13 at the new Music City Center in Nashville, TN as a featured attraction of the Summer NAMM Show. All records and scores were recorded by the Drumometer, a machine which serves as a teaching tool to detect the speed of drummer's hands and feet. Included in the event were technical demonstrations, insight sessions and appearances by WFD Champions and World Record Holders Matt Smith, Eric Okamoto and Randy Briggs. WFD guests included drumming legends Bernard Purdie, Danny Gottlieb and Dom Famularo. The WFD competition consisted of two categories, Battle of the Hands and Battle of the Feet. The Preliminary Heats were held July 11 and 12. The top ten Fastest Hands and top ten Fastest Feet then stepped into battle at WFD World Finals, on Saturday, July 13. The event was received by an enthusiastic audience who cheered wildly for the entire competition. The highest world finals score for the hands this year was 989 singles and for the feet it was 846 singles. Tom Grosset was not allowed to compete for the prizes as a former 2007 contest winner, in which he set the WFD sixteen and under record of 1,194 singles in 60 seconds. Since he competed in 2007 and won the finals against other contestants, Tom was set on trying to break the world record. The current world records at the time were 1,203, held by Mike Mangini, 1,199 held by Jotan Afanador, and Tom with 1,194 singles. Now, Tom sits at the top with an incredible 1,208 single strokes making him the world's fastest drummer.
