- description: Jacko GILL was expected to win this World Junior Championship and retain the title won in MONCTON 2010 and he did . But not with the margin and facility that one could expect. Indeed he had to fight with Krysztof BRZOZOWSKI from Poland. In the 1st round, Jacko started with a 21,74m easy opening throw and quite everybody was thinking that the game was over , when the Pole hit a huge PB 21,78m to take the lead by 4cm. One must remember that since 2010, BRZOZOWKI has been the only shot putter to beat Jacko GILL (at the Singapore Youth Olympics) . Was it going to happen again ? Jacko certainly did not want it and answered immediatly in the 2nd round with a 22,19m . After that Krysztof tried as hard as he could (nearly killing a cameraman in the process with an out of sector throw) but he could not improve when Jacko even added one more cm to his score with 22,20m and kept bombarding over the 22m . With this 2nd title, the NZL thrower made history again , being one of only 4 male athletes in the world to retain a world junior title (added to a world youth !) . He was a bit frustrated not to have thrown even further to break STORL's world junior record , but this will be for another day as he has still over one year to do that . This championship was the best ever at top 3 level with the Australian Damian BIRKENHEAD throwing a PB and Aussie record at 21,14m to complete a trio over 21m . You had to throw over 19,10m to make the top 12 final and 19,55m to make top 8 ! DP
